We certainly wouldn't name a son "Sue," but would we name a daughter "Lou"? Maybe.
Ok, not literally, but this name thing, it ain't easy. Sean and I have to cop to not wanting to pick a name that is on any of the "Top Baby Name" lists. We thought we'd done pretty well, but I got a comment about 6 weeks ago from another woman who had two daughters named...
Briar and Avery.
Her Avery came before her Briar, so at least our names weren't entirely replicated in another family.
We have had a list going very casually for about a month, but in the last couple of days have gotten very serious. I'm not sure where the sudden focus on naming this fantastically kicky little creature has come from, but I am thankful for it just the same. The response to the name post has made us realize that perhaps one or two of the names sitting high on the "maybe" list are soon to be making an appearance on some of those "Hot Baby Names" lists. Or perhaps you are all just incredibly savvy, with impeccable taste and no plans to have more children, so the names are safe.
Doubting that.
So where does that leave us? Do you even care? Good grief.
I don't know anything more than this- we will be choosing a name that means something to Sean and me. Avery's middle name is taken from the theatre where we met. Hearing it paired with a name we chose and bestowed upon a life we created together is what makes it so absolutely perfect. I am so looking forward to a day not so far from now, when we will meet this treasure of ours and begin an affair of loving her and reveling in the blessing that is being parents to our girls.
For all my fretting, I am thrilled to be sharing this with you all and thank you each for caring about our girls and the stories I tell.

I won't be using any of the names I suggested, LOL! For what it's worth!
Can't wait to read about the name you end up choosing.
first i love the johnny cash reference - i heart johnny!
second - i sooo can't wait to hear this new little ones name! i just know that it will be perfect!
I'll be waiting at the edge of my seat when we hear you are in labor. About how many more weeks now?
Um, yeah, we won't be using any more baby names, popular or otherwise. Let's not have any more crazy talk. Thank you.
PS: The names I put in my comment were just names that I kind of dig, not sure if any of them are hot right now.
I know exactly what you mean about the not wanting to name kids the popular names. I went through most of my school as Heather H. I hope to avoid that for my kids, but I also don't want to name them anything so off the wall (like Apple).
I'm a little scared that one of the names we're considering showed up in your comments too... and I didn't think it was popular at all.
Hmmm.
To help with your search, you may find this map of popular baby names useful. It's a quick way to see the popularity of your potential names.
You are too funny.
I think that you will find something so very perfect, I FEEEEELLLL it.
*wink* might be a cute middle name. Or what about a way to represent Sean? A family name, someone who's special to him?
Not like you need any more suggestions!
Well, I can't wait to hear. I *love* the other names you picked...
thanks for stopping my blog and commenting, so I could come "meet" you here.
I've just enjoyed reading some of your posts and am quite captivated.
As for the names, here is a fun website. http://www.nymbler.com/nymbler/find-names.php
you type in names you like and it gives you some names related to it. it's great fun.
looking forward to hearing what the name comes to be.
I love hearing about names...
My co~worker is expecting a boy and he and his wife are torn between Dax, Fife, Jude and... I can't remember the rest (they are due in a lil over a month and still have 4~5 names!).
It's such a big decision though!
I was almost a Monica.
I like Amy much better :)
Although I thought a lot about the names of my kids, I also just knew that they could be nothing else ... whatever name you give the baby it will be just right.
Not going to lie... I would have used Leah if Lukas was a girl. Now Jim won't let me use it because he thinks Lukas and Leah sounds too much like Luke Skywalker and Princess Liea. I was always curious about Avery's middle name. That is very special.
You've picked two great names for your children, and no doubt will find the perfect name for your third. Naming is hard. Fly didn't have a name until the day we left the hospital. We didn't think it was fair to name a person before we knew him.
BTW, I wrote a post trying to imitate you on my blog for I'm Sincere Week!
I think my head stays in the blog world too much. Two nights ago, as I was up for a two am feeding with my daughter, my mind was blearily going through "L" names that weren't suggested. The only ones I could think of were Lucy, Louisa, Lulubelle, and Luna. Why I was thinking of this at 2 in the morning is beyond me. But there you go.
Naming is so fraught.
My sister was all set to name her child Rosemary, until she mentioned it to my mother. My mother dissed the name, and it didn't get used. But if they'd waited to announce the name AFTER the kid was born, no one would have said anything.
So, don't tell anyone!!
