Sweets, dreamin'

Our sweets, dreaming, together. That's right, we've done it.

Two girls.
One room.
One bedtime.
Two nights running.

Now, I'd be lying if I didn't say there were a few episodes of hysterics last night, but all things considered (Read: Your many altruistic comments offering insight, empathy and condolences, as well as your own tales of shared bedrooms) it really wasn't all that painful for anyone.

Not that I am a proponent of bribing, though it has its places -

the check out at the grocery store
the home office during an important call
immediately following the dropping of an f-bomb or other unsuitable-for-use-by-a-toddler- type language
and when you have to change course, delaying a promise
Might I suggest for any of you parents considering a merging of rooms the purchase of the princess light at Lowe's, the privilege of turning it off will have them eating out of your hand. Admittedly this might be a tougher sell if the new co-habitants are boys, it worked royally well for our girls.

We came downstairs rather proud of ourselves and with cheshire cat grins plopped on the sofa to watch something on tv uninterrupted by staggered bedtimes. As luck would have it, there was NOTHING on tv. Sigh. Luckily we can hear the echo of Briar standing in the doorway of her room saying, "This is my room. And this is Avery's room, too."

A prime time indeed.

Congratulations! Bribery or no, you need to do what works to achieve some goals. I do not know a parent who hasn't used it from time to time. Or a lot. :) Enjoy!

Congrats! I have two boys and will be trying to get them to share a room in approx. 2 years when my youngest leaves his crib. I can imagine it will be a challenge!

That is great. I totally support bribery. Sometimes it is the only thing that can get the job done.

Congrats on the room merge.

Ok. This is too funny, but my mom bought this lamp for the nursery at her house as well and for the EXACT same reasons. We had to bribe the kids to sleep together in there, and voila! Princess lamp did the trick! Oh that's too funny to even be coincidental.
Yeah for two girls in a room!

I can imagine your elation. I really can. I have a 9 mo old son and 2 year old daughter. Bedtime is at 7. Mommy and Daddy can chill all night long. Save, the 3 am feedings. It surely is something to look forward to.

HI! You don't know me, but I'm a mom with two girls, Avery who is 4 and Briar who is 20 months. I guess a friend of mine did a search for my blog and came up with yours and then sent me the link! I can't believe the irony in this since we've recently moved from Western NY and it looks like you're in NY too. I've seriously never met anyone else with the name Briar....and Avery isn't that common either, so you make me curious! What a fun peep into your life. Your children are beautiful -- and have beautiful names!

The Mayor and The Rooster share a room... I don't know what will happen when they are too old to do so. Ain't no mo' rooms, you know?!!

i'm so glad that you got this to work! it's a scary thing indeed. the thought of my boys sharing a room (and either of them being in a bed rather than a crib) makes me shiver in my Canadian winter boots!
